It all started with a trip to the dentist. I was flipping through a magazine and came upon this ad below. It was a light bulb moment: why don't we do this in our back closet?? I mean, duh!
here is said back closet. not looking like the magazine ad.
at all.
the wheels got rolling in my head, and I tried imagine different ways to make it more user friendly. I visited home depot and checked out the options there. Our closet is only 4' wide, and I wanted a decent length of coat rack, so I came up with an Ikea solution. I used a 4-square Ikea shelf from our family room, plus boxes from different expedits around the house (yes, we have several!) therefore, the first installment was free! I bought the tall skinny shelf plus 2 doors and a set of drawers. Troy and I went to work one evening and finished it all in exactly 2 hours. Pretty good timing, I say! Troy got the hard bits - securing the tall shelf to the wall, which meant squeezing his head and arms into a tight space! And then cutting our existing rod to the right size required a lot of sawing with a small hand saw. He attached it to the expedit shelf. With my handy-dandy electric screwdriver (I love that thing!) I got my Ikea pieces together in no time.

where are the heavy-duty wire cutters when you need them?
and voila! finished closet, looking rather sparkly white and tidy
and why not a front view to see the vacuum attachments and broom.
I love the pops of green, and the little shelf for my purse.
the kids each have a black shoe box, and the 4th one hold my scarves
