It's said that with each baby you have, the quicker the labour. So I was expecting a very quick one, after Lily's 5 hours! Not quite, but what was different, was that she was born right on her due date, May 7th, 2008. The other 2 were several days late. I had a one day false alarm with Ruby, but when labour started up again the next night and we headed to the hospital with our midwife, we were fortunate to be the only labouring couple that night and had our pick of rooms. Our midwife quickly picked the room with the big tub in it, and as soon as it was full of soothing warm water, I got right in. I spent the next 6 hours in that tub, all through the wee hours of the morning. The lights were dimmed, we had the radio on softly, and it was so quiet and serene. So quiet and serene in fact, that Troy dozed in the chair by the tub, while I laboured, seemingly alone! at 6:00 a.m., Ruby made her entrance with a vengeance! There was no holding her back, my midwife was telling me "don't push!" She was born and came out of the water and into my arms. It was amazing to hold this little miracle and watch her turn from purple to a healthy pink, something I wasn't able to experience with my other two. Soon, we got out of the tub, and were enveloped in warmed blankets on the bed - heavenly!! We went home after 5 hours, and life with 3 kids began!
