another school year starting

I can't deny that there was a bit of anxiety on my part leading up to the start of school. I don't think the kids were very anxious, despite it being all new to them, so that was a relief.  My main anxiety was not knowing if the kids were going to get into their school!  The school wasn't built big enough for the current number of kids, so we were on a waiting list until the weekend before school started.  I was at times very hopeful and confident, and closer to the time, feeling more and more worried and unsure about it.  I knew that they were going to be calling parents a certain day, so I waited and waited and waited till I could wait no longer and made the call to the school to find out the good or bad news in the late afternoon.  She didn't say yes or no, she started by telling me what divisions the kids would be in!  I was so incredibly relieved that I burst into tears right on the spot.  Oliver was sweet and hugged me and told me it would be alright :)  Lily didn't understand why I was crying, this was GOOD news, not bad!

I understand that we were one of the very few on the waiting list that got in.  I met a woman who's son had been on the waiting list for 2 years and he didn't get in again.  Lucky? Early to register? Squeaky wheel gets the grease?  I may never know, I just know we're very fortunate and happy to be able to walk 10 minutes to school, with classmates living all around us, rather than having to drive to a different catchment.

The kids have done amazingly well right from day one.  They're loving school and making friends and having fun. I'm a happy mama!

heading out the door for their 'first' half hour of school, which was basically just getting a slip of paper confirming the kids were in!

the chaos of organizing and labelling school supplies!  I bought them in the store this year instead of the kit you can buy from school. I can say from experience now that it's WAY easier (and cheaper too I think) to buy the package of school supplies from the school! no brainer.  I thought it would be fun, but it wasn't.

first full day. big smiles!!

packs FULL of heavy school supplies

we love walking (downhill) to school every morning

heading into school, me hoping the kids would have a great day, and they did
