Another Halloween has come and gone, pumpkins composted, and decorations put away. There is, however, a very large and heavy bag of leftover candy that will make it's way to work with Troy, now that he's home from abroad.
the stars of Halloween:
Ruby, the flower fairy.
this fun, bright yellow sunflower hat has been beaten and battered in our dress-up box, after making it for Lily's halloween costume 2 years ago. A little bent out of shape, but we made it work, and I was happy to use it again. 1/2 an hour before leaving for preschool, I sewed the ric-rac ribbon on the skirt-turned-dress, hand stitched the flower in place, and sewed the pom-pom ribbon onto the leggings. Talk about a quick costume, and super cute!
Oliver - Hobo (on the street), Lily - famous artist
jeans and blazer were found at Value Village, and I ironed on patches, front and back and on the hat. I sewed up the dotty neck-kerchief and apron, which Lily had fun putting real paint smudges on. Shirt was a small one of O's, beret from Joe, and real palette from an art store. We were both happy with how the costume turned out. She IS a little artist, so it was quite fitting. Oliver likes to say Hobo (like a jokey insult), so it was fitting for him too. goof.
all the colours of the rainbow, plus some!
time to go trick or treating
costumes modified a bit, added massive tutu and black eyebrows!
Oliver's classy pumpkin
I stayed home to give out candy in my witches hat while our friends Amanda and Roxy took the kids out. Oliver went with his friends, and came home with waaaay too much candy. The kids picked out about 20 pieces to keep, and exchanged the rest for a small toy. We do this every year, so that's why I have a huge bag of candy to get rid of. ugh, it's not even tempting anymore.
Roxy (cowgirl) is from Australia, and this is her first ever Halloween. It was fun for her to experience trick or treating by taking our kids out. She thought it was lots of fun, and a little bit scary! She was surprised that kids weren't really scared by all the creepy decorating, spooky sounds, and moving things, but I guess Canadian kids get immune to it at a young age!
