Hornby Island Week

We've had a wonderful summer, topped off with seven days on Hornby Island at the end of August.  This was our 3rd time there, and we loved what that small island has to offer: gorgeous beaches at Tribune Bay and Whaling Station Bay, great hike at Helliwell Provincial Park, bike riding, hanging out at the Co-op for ice cream cones and lattes, pizza and music night in the orchard at the Cardboard House Bakery, walking the rocks at Ford's Cove, catching up on reading, spotting deer everywhere, and lots of relaxation!

loaded up and on our 3rd and final ferry to our destination

we all loved the beach, especially on a sunny day!
cold, windy days just don't cut it, and we had a few of those

i thought this was so cute. Lily was helping Ruby down off the log, being very gentle and sweet.

my cute mother and father in law!
with us for half the holiday

we picked lots of ripe blackberries, all over the island

I have a photo of the older 2 in this same rock 3 years ago. love this one!

hunkering down to read. not ideal beach weather!

Grampa K joined us and brought a sling shot! a big hit with the boys

Ruby and Aspen had lots of fun together
like climbing up big rocks

cousins

sisters.  Jill, Dad and the 3 kids joined us for the last 3 days

Oliver had been begging to build a camp fire, so we bought a bag of marshmellows
and enjoyed the warmth (and novelty) of the fire

we had such high hopes for a morning that started out sunny!
by the time we got to the beach, it was c-o-l-d and windy.
needless to say, we didn't stick around too long.

back to the house, where Grampa set up a game of hitting water bottles with
baseballs and keeping score. great fun!

while Jill and I read magazines on the deck

the day got better and better as we went for another little hike at Helliwell

kids throwing rocks off the cliff

another lovely morning
drinking lattes oceanside

our last full day was sunny and warm
perfect beach day!
we were happy campers

our Comox friends came over for a couple of days
and we celebrated Jada's 8th birthday

happy birthday to you!

we have a few days left of summer, and school starts again!
